Trying to Understand – TTU!!

TTU!! is an exercise in modelling basic eco-social behaviours to understand how they emerged over time. In this way, we can gain a new perspective on our world, its limits, and how things have come to be as they are today. Time unfolds and creates behaviours.

But above all, TTU!! is a call to experiment with new languages that enable us to better address complexity.

TTU!! #1 – CIVILIZATION, THE GROWTH DILEMMA. How the shift from a nomadic to a sedentary population gave rise to civilisation. Explore the trade-offs and boundaries of the model that has brought us this far.  Think of needs as a shaper of behaviour, in the style of Max-Neef.

TTU!! #2 – INFORMATION OVERLOAD. The idea was to talk about how, throughout history, information overload has often led to changes and breaks with previous social structures. But we needed an introduction.

FIRST PART: CAPACITY TO PROCESS INFORMATION. The evolution of biological capacity to process information is intrinsically linked to the transformative potential of life forms on the environment, such that the two evolve in a spiral. Explore the co-evolution of complexity and information processing.

SECOND PART: COGNITION AND CONSCIOUSNESS. See congition as the link between the evolution of the organism and the evolution of the entire environment, nothing more than a mechanism of LIFE. See also how the aparition of CONSCIOUSNESS altered the course of evolution.

THIRD PART: SOCIAL REALITY. Reflective consciousness opened the door to social reality, and marked a definitive leap in the biological capacity to process information prior to the advent of technology.

FOURTH PART: INFORMATION OVERLOAD. The feedback loop involving SOCIAL COMPLEXITY, the production of information and the need to make sense of it generates an ever-increasing technological capacity for information processing.
